Breast Augmentation (Enlargement)
What is it?
Augmentation Mammoplasty builds up the breasts, increasing their size up to a B or C cup size, as well as correcting slight sagging, improving general firmness. It will improve the proportion of your breasts to your body size if you feel that are smaller than they should be, and can also be used to build up the breasts after mastectomy.
How is it performed?
A saline filled breast implant is inserted behind the breast tissue and / or behind the pectoral muscle. The surgery will be followed by a short stay in the hospital. How long will it take for the physical effects of the operation to disappear? Your breasts may be swollen and bruised for 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery. In order to insert the implant, small incisions are made either under the breasts, around the nipples or under the arm. These fade away and become virtually unnoticeable after time, so scarring will be minimal. Occasionally a capsule of scar tissue forms around the implant; but this just increases the feeling of breast firmness. An implant may deflate after time, and might require replacement. What about breast cancer and breast feeding? There is no evidence that the procedure causes breast cancer or other diseases nor do breast implants interfere with breast feeding.
