Hip, knee and trauma surgery
MBBS (Sydney), FRACS (Orth), FAOrthADr Chia is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in disorders of the hip and knee. He has particular expertise in primary and revision joint replacement as well as arthroscopic procedures of these joints. In addition to this, he also treats a significant amount of general orthopaedic trauma.Dr Chia completed his medical degree at the University Of Sydney in 1999 before undertaking his internship and basic surgical training at The Prince Of Wales Hospital. He was then selected onto the Sydney Southside Training Scheme of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He gained his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008 and then completed three postgraduate fellowships in hip and knee reconstruction. These were administered by Arthritis Australia, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Peninsula Orthopaedics Research Institute.Dr Chia has a keen interest in research and has published several articles in major orthopaedic journals. He also enjoys participating in medical education. He is a current tutor for medical students at the University of Sydney and is involved in registrar teaching at various levels.Common procedures that Dr Chia performs include partial and total knee replacement, total hip replacement and revision surgery of both hip and knee replacements. Dr Chia also performs arthroscopic procedures such as meniscal repair and ACL reconstruction. In addition to this, he treats most fractures of the upper and lower limb.Dr Chia is able to provide a service to all residents of the Northern Beaches through participation in the on-call roster and elective lists at Manly Hospital as well as appointments to various private hospitals in the area.In his spare time, Dr Chia can be spotted pursuing his young family around local parks and beaches. Once a keen cricketer and rugby player, he now enjoys being an armchair critic of most team sports and is often seen to look longingly at the travel section of the Sydney Morning Herald.
