Oncology Nurse Cath ODwyerThe Oncology Service at Manly Waters Private Hospital offers professional and personal treatment for people with cancers and blood disorders.

Convenience

The Hospital and Oncology Service are conveniently located in Manly so if you live on the Northern Beaches or Pittwater, you no longer have to travel out of your area to receive treatment. Parking is available behind the hospital and there the bus stops about a 5 minute walk away.

A Range of Services

The Oncology Service offers chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions and other intravenous therapies required in the long term management of malignant conditions. Most treatments are given through an intravenous ’drip’ in the hand or the arm and may only take an hour or two.

Personal Service

For your first visit, you will be greeted by our Oncology Nurse and taken directly to the Oncology Unit. For any future treatments, you are welcome to go directly from the car park to lift to Oncology Unit. Your family, friend or carer accompanying you is most welcome to stay with you, meet your Oncology Nurse and listen to her explain the procedure, what to expect and discuss any other concerns you may have. Light refreshments will also be provided. You are encouraged to telephone and speak to our Oncology Nurse at anytime before or during your treatments on 9977 9977. If the Oncology Nurse is not available at this time, our Charge Nurse on duty will assist you and arrange a follow up call from the Oncology Nurse as soon as possible.

What You Need To Bring

Before your first visit, our Oncology Nurse will contact you to discuss your needs and explain the procedures of your admission and treatment. An admissions person will also contact you about your health insurance fund, Medicare, pharmacy entitlement and or Veterans Affairs details. You will then be provided with an estimate of day admission and pharmacy costs. On admission, you will need to bring details of your current medications. Unless specifically instructed, you do not need to bring any other items and will not require any further preparation.

Hospital Admission

Full admission to hospital is possible if required for stabilisation of troublesome symptoms, including pain. In this case, the Mona Vale Palliative Care Service may be involved to assist in your management, together with your local doctor or referring specialist. Besides admission for palliative issues, we also provide admission for surgical needs if required.
